"The Volcano Seems to Have Erupted" 火山好像喷发了 is a short story that follows a young Chinese couple living in America who travel to the Big Island of Hawaii to chase an eruption of Kīlauea.

The eruption delays. The relationship crumbles. And the chase seems bound to fail... or is it? As their wait stretches, a surfing accident that happened not that long before also resurfaces, bringing to light what they are chasing and what they thought they had left behind.

The short story was published in the journal Shanhua 山花 in 2026 and selected for republication in 2026 Overseas Chinese Novels of the Year 2026年度海外华语小说 (edited by Shang Xia, Lijiang Publishing House, forthcoming 2027).
